When Jesus witnesses in John 6, it seems like he is dividing the crops more than just harvesting everything. He takes more of a combine approach, throwing the trash back in the field. He's separating the quick and the dead.
Also, Jesus doesn't make excuses for God or try to persuade, like I feel the urge to do. He just lays out the facts and gives people the freedom to decide for themselves. Its actually a lot more mature approach than I take.
It seems more like Jesus is trying to drive people away than bring them in. What do you think?

I don't think that Jesus is trying to drive people away with this chapter. I believe what He is doing is telling them not to believe in Him because He feeds them, or perorms signs and wonders, but because of who He is. We all must accept Christ for who He is, not because He can do things for us. One exalts Him, the other exalts us.
ReplyDeleteWe submit to Christ because of who He is, we submit to God because of who He is. The benefit to us is secondary to this. God loves His family and believers are a part of that family. He gives good gifts to those He loves, but that is not the reason to believe, He alone is the reason to believe.
Rewards and treasures in Heaven are the result of our obedience to Him. Just as an worldly parent gives good gifts to their children, God does also, only much greater. This is the reward for submission and obedience, not the reason for it.
The crowd was looking for signs and wonders, and were missing the whole point of who Christ is.
