A simple question with a seemingly difficult answer.
However, I believe I have a simple answer to one of humanities greatest questions. Actually it is only a three word answer. Before I give my answer, I'd like to hear what all of you have to say on this subject.

In the Westminster Shorter Catechism, Qestion 1 asks: What is the chief end of man? - Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.

This link has proof texts at the bottom. Sorry, for giving the Textbook answer and not my own. In the future, I'll try to be more creative but this time I got to make Jean Marciel proud. Represent!
I think that my meaning in life comes from following God. This is not an easy task. I want to follow Him with my whole heart and not shy away from the hard things that He asks us to do.
ReplyDeleteI want to be following Him so whole heartedly that it shapes every decision that I make everyday.
Funny you ask. There have been a series pf commercials on the the TV about why we are here or something on that line. And of course they have well know actors that say we are here to help. That is the reason they say.
ReplyDeleteOf course that is a worldly prospective.
If I go to the Bible and read Genesis and when God created Adam and Eve he wanted that relationship with us. To walk in the cool of the day. I think that is part one. The relationship aspect.
But when Jesus came onto the scene he added some other ingredients to the pot. He emphasized love God, but to also equal emphasized love they neighbor.
I believe we are here to love God via acts of worship. ie singing, dancing(not the freaky kind) and even washing the dishes. All of which can tell God just how much we love and need him.
Second, it is to love people. This is the part I think a lot of churches miss. And that is simply helping people is there times of need. And doing it without the judgment. I would even say it is almost harder to do this than to love God. Or think we are loving/pleasing God.
I could go on, but I'll let the next peep go.

YES, glorify God and enjoy Him forever
ReplyDeleteYES, follow God
YES, love God, love others
My wording for purpose of being here is to live sacrificially by putting others' needs ahead of my own; dying to self, living for Christ.
Also, sharing the hope and joy found in living within relationship with God to those around me
Conrad, we need your answer!
